No visit to Hoi An is complete without getting a tailor-made suit. I have a wedding to go to in a couple of weeks, so I went to Bebe Tailor to get a suit made for the dress code “colonial chic.” We can gloss over this part, but I also commissioned 10 shirts and a second suit…. moving on!
The food in different regions of Vietnam varies wildly. I loved the food in Hoi An. (For the record, I also loved it everywhere else.) Supposedly, central Vietnamese food is distinguished by a bit more spice than the north and south. I had seen that Anthony Bourdain visited a sandwich joint in Hoi An (sandwich = banh mi) and loved the food there, so I had to check it out. If you’re in Hoi An, you’ll need to as well – it was amazing! Three different kinds of meat, goose fat, spice, leaves and herbs – all in a crunchy baguette! What’s not to love? This was simply amazing. I would go back to Vietnam for this sandwich. I AM NOT KIDDING.
